• Probs&Solutions – Copycat Marker Rendering

After noticing where are my weaknesses in marker rendering, I went on Moodle to do a couple of copycat marker sketches and I noticed that I need to practice more marker rendering as I encounter the similar problems when I’m doing my line sketches, where I need to practice how to control the power of the marker and the accuracy of where I should place my marker in my drawing. Other than that, I noticed that before doing any marker rendering on my drawing I need to emphasise on my line even more like make it more thicker to make the drawing seem more lively then only I apply my…

  • Development- Marker Renderings

On week 3,  I was given the task to do marker renderings based on the underlays given and corvette redesign with marker renderings. For the marker renderings based on the underlays given I was required to watch the video by my tutor to follow the step by step on how to do marker rendering. My marker renderings was quite okay until it got onto the corvette marker rendering which I was required to redesign then render it. I was not feeling confident when I was doing the corvette rendering as I could not understand where the reflections should be shown and the shadows that should be rendered. So basically, I…

  • Development – Wheel Sketches

After the Kei Car and Ugly Car redesign, I noticed that I really need to improve on my wheel sketches. I have looked at the video given by my tutor in Moodle, in how to sketch wheels in perspective. From the video, I have learned on how to sketch the wheels in perspective and I practiced it two times. After that on week 4, I was required to some speed sketching and I am really satisfied with my wheel sketches as I managed to sketch out a fairly nice sketches of the wheels based on my observation and the time given during the speed sketch which I was given 10…

  • Development – Kei Car and Ugly Car Redesign

On week 2, I was required to redesign 3 ugly car that were given by my lecturer and give annotation on what I have redesign from the car, why did I redesign the certain part of the car, and give reflection on what’s the differences between the original design and the design that I have drawn. So I was given the Nissan Juke, Lexus NX300h, and the Pontiac Aztec. Out of the 3 redesign that I have done, the one that I enjoy redesigning the most is the Pontiac Aztec. I enjoyed redesigning the Pontiac Aztec because I feel that I have changed majority of the car design and to…

  • Design Manifesto

Good design should be ‘simple’. Good design should be simple and not complicated like a push and pull door. Often people mistake the door by pull when it’s actually push because the door on both sides have the handle bar. For this scenario to make things easier, pull and push doors should just be made either just pull or just push and no other way around because sometimes implementing both push and pull confuses people’s mind whether to pull open a door or push open the door.

  • Probs&Solutions- Copycat Sketches

In my module content from Moodle, my lecturer has given us line drawing copycat examples in Moodle and have asked us to replicate professional sketches done by other designers to practice our accuracy of sketching and line work. I found out that this exercise works out really well for me as I have done a few copycat sketches and I feel more confident when it comes to sketch quickly and accurately. As above it shows that through copy cat sketches I am able to produce quite well sketches , but I feel like it can be improved more in the accuracy of the drawing and also the stance of the…

  • Development- 3D Car Proportions

On the 2nd week of my course, our lecturer has also given us handouts of 3D car proportion drawing starting from grid boxes. We are asked to watch the videos given by our lecturer in Moodle to see how to draw perspective drawing from 1 point angle perspective and grid box drawing. As shown is a drawing of the Volkswagen Up under a grid box trace that I have done and followed from the video shown by our lecturer in Moodle. I can see that my proportion of the car is off and the angle of the ellipse (wheels) is off as well. Other than that the proportion of the doors…

  • Development- 2D Car Proportions

On the same week, my lecturers gave us a proportion exercise to understand the basic proportions of a car. We are required to just sketch with biro pens as using an eraser while sketching with pencil allows us to fix our mistake. The main objectives of the exercise given is for us to practice our accuracy of line drawing and how we measure the basic proportions of the car. Our lecturer has taught us to use wheels and vertical lines to measure the proportions of the car like the length and the height of the car. We were given handouts of accurate proportion of the car and I have used…

  • Development- Line Work

During my first week of degree course in Automotive Design, my lecturer have asked us to sketch our shoes with the time given by our lecturer. He have given us the time of 20 minutes, 10 minutes, 7 minutes, 2 minutes, 1 minute, and 30 second to sketch 6 shoe sketches with the time given accordingly to show how quickly and accurately we can draw. From the observations of the few drawings it is shown that my line work is not really well as it is quite fuzzy and I tend to press the paper too hard and the line gets too thick. Through this activity given by our lecturer,…
